You may be facing the more common laptop problems. Troubleshooting them is your first logical course of action.
If you are facing problem with battery then, you may assume that the battery has simply died out, and purchasing a replacement results in unnecessary expense. Before you go out and get a new battery therefore, you will have to determine if your issues have to do with a frayed wire or damaged connector. If this is the case, these common laptop problems can be resolved by a quick soldering job or a bit of electrical tape.
If your laptop’s LCD appears dead, a defective motherboard or video adapter could be the cause of your problem. In some cases, a failed inverter or backlight may be the cause. If the LCD is indeed damaged, this will necessitate a troublesome and costly repair. When faced with this situation, you will have to decide if you are better off buying a new laptop instead of repairing the old one. Such is the case when you are faced with a defective motherboard as well.
A malfunctioning CD or DVD drive is another matter. Before reaching for your screwdriver, try out several different discs and see if the problem lies in only a few CDs. You could also try cleaning the lens of the drive with anyone of the many commercially available drive lens cleaners on the market. Finally, you may want to open up your laptop and check if the connection has somehow worked loose. When all else fails, you may have to replace the defective drive with a new one.
The first step in troubleshooting common laptop problems is determining which components are still working normally. If your laptop refuses to start up for instance, you will want to find out if power is indeed coming in. If the LED on the power supply is lit up, and is therefore functioning as normal, then you probably have more serious problem on your hands. Keep in mind that power issues aren’t anything to mess with if you don’t know what you’re doing, so it may be best to seek qualified help.
